Car Calculators
Use our free automotive calculators to estimate vehicle ownership costs, repair expenses, import costs, used-car values, EV battery replacement costs and performance. Each calculator provides an estimate based on the information you enter, with assumptions explained so you can understand how the result was calculated.
EV Battery Replacement Cost Calculator
Estimate what it would cost to replace an EV battery pack, by battery size and current pack pricing, split into pack and labor. Pick your model to set the kWh, then run the warranty check: most owners asking this are still inside the 8-year / 100,000-mile coverage and would pay nothing for a defective pack.
Most car questions come down to one number. What will this car cost me this year? Is that used car priced fairly? Is the repair quote worth paying? Our free car calculators put those numbers in front of you in about a minute, and they show their assumptions so you can change them to match your own situation.
Every tool here is a free online car calculator. There is no sign-up and nothing to download. Enter what you know, read the estimated cost, then adjust the inputs and see what moves.
Which Car Calculator Do you Need?
The honest answer depends on what you are trying to decide. If you are buying or selling a used car, start with the price calculator. If your car just got an expensive diagnosis, start with the repair or replace tool. If you are planning the year ahead, start with maintenance costs. The drag racing calculators are for anyone who wants to know what a build might run before going to the track.
Ownership and Running Costs
Car Maintenance Cost Calculator. This tool estimates your annual car maintenance cost and your monthly car maintenance cost across routine services (oil changes, filters, fluids, inspections), wear and tear (tires, brakes, battery), tech subscriptions and an unexpected repairs fund. Pick a vehicle type, add your car brand, and the numbers adjust. A standard gas car starts at about $1,480 a year, an electric car at about $1,135 and a truck or SUV at about $2,010. The gap comes mainly from oil changes, tire wear and brake wear.
EV Battery Replacement Cost Calculator. The battery pack is the number that worries electric car owners, so this tool splits EV battery replacement cost into battery pack and labor, using your pack size in kWh. A 75 kWh pack at $150 per kWh plus six hours of labor comes to about $12,210. It then runs a battery warranty check. Most EVs carry at least 8 years or 100,000 miles of coverage, so a defective pack inside that window should cost you nothing.
Car Repair Cost Calculator. This gives you a fair price range for a specific car repair before you say yes to a repair quote, so you can tell a reasonable bill from an inflated one.
Car Repair vs Replace Calculator. The old rule says to replace a car when the repair costs more than half its value. It is a decent starting point and a poor finish line. This calculator compares the total cost of repairing with the total cost of replacing over the years you plan to keep the car, including depreciation, insurance, financing interest, upkeep and trade-in value. Then it names a winner and says how confident it is. Sometimes the answer is “too close to call”, and it will say that too.
Buying, selling and importing
Used Car Price Calculator. Enter the make, model, trim, year, mileage, ownership history, condition and region, and you get a used car value as a low, high and most likely figure. The damage assessment is the distinctive part. Body, engine, transmission and interior damage each reduce the market value by a different amount, and engine and transmission damage hurt the most.
Vehicle Import Cost Calculator. The sticker price of an imported car is only part of the bill. This tool estimates the full landed cost of importing a car from Japan to the United States, including FOB, the agency fee, ocean freight, freight insurance, customs clearance and domestic trucking. Freight is priced by vehicle size in cubic meters, which is why a truck costs more to ship than a small sports car. Duties and tariffs are not included, so confirm those with a customs broker.
Drag racing calculators
1/4 Mile Calculator. Enter weight and wheel horsepower to estimate quarter-mile ET and trap speed. A 3,500 lb car making 400 wheel horsepower works out to roughly 12.00 seconds at 113.6 mph. It also shows power-to-weight ratio, the number that does the most to predict how quick a car is.
1/8 Mile to 1/4 Mile Conversion Calculator. This converts elapsed time between the eighth mile and the quarter mile using the standard 1.555 factor, in either direction. A 6.00 second eighth-mile pass converts to about 9.33 seconds in the quarter.
How we Build the Estimates
Each calculator uses a method we explain on its page. Value tools use depreciation curves and mileage benchmarks. The drag racing tools use published drag racing formulas for ET and speed. The battery tool follows standard warranty rules, and the maintenance and import tools use clearly stated averages for parts, labor and freight. We do not pull live listings or quotes. That keeps the tools fast and free, and it means every result is an estimate, not a quote.
Getting more Accurate Results
Use real numbers wherever you have them, such as your actual mileage, a written repair quote or your own insurance premium. Run more than one scenario too. Change the number of years you plan to keep the car, or the repair price, and watch how the repair or replace answer shifts. Treat damaged or unusual cars as wider ranges, because the less typical the car, the less a general model can see. For any big decision, confirm with a mechanic, a pre-purchase inspection or a dealer appraisal.
