TLC LARS stands for License Applications, Renewals and Summonses. It is an online portal associated with New York City's Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC). Eligible taxi drivers, vehicle owners and other license holders can use TLC LARS to manage certain license applications, renewal payments, summons payments and contact information updates. The portal helps users complete eligible licensing transactions online. However, paying a fee does not guarantee that the TLC will approve an application or renew a license. What Is TLC LARS Used For? TLC LARS allows eligible users to pay license application and renewal fees, apply for certain new licenses, pay eligible summonses and update contact information. The available services depend on the user's license type and the transaction required. How Do You Access the TLC LARS Portal? Visit the official TLC LARS portal and select the service you need. Follow the on-screen instructions and provide the requested license or transaction details. Always use the official NYC website when submitting licensing information or making payments. How Do You Renew a TLC License Through LARS? Eligible license holders can use TLC LARS to pay renewal fees. Drivers must also complete the applicable renewal requirements and submit any required documents through the appropriate TLC online service. The commission must process and approve the renewal before the license is considered renewed. Check the official TLC driver renewal requirements before starting. Can You Renew an Expired TLC Driver License? An expired TLC driver license may qualify for late renewal within 180 days after expiration, subject to the commission's requirements. A $25 late renewal fee applies under the published driver renewal rules. The license remains expired until the TLC approves the renewal. Drivers should verify their license status before providing for-hire services. How Do You Pay a TLC Summons Online? Open TLC LARS and select the appropriate summons payment option. Follow the instructions to locate and pay an eligible summons. Summonses marked “Personal Appearance Required” cannot be paid through the standard online payment process. Check the instructions on the summons if a personal appearance is required. How Much Does TLC LARS Charge? E-check payments have no payment fee. Credit and debit card payments incur a nonrefundable fee of 2% of the payment amount. License application and renewal fees are also nonrefundable. Review the total displayed before confirming your payment. How Do You Check Your TLC License Renewal Status? Use the appropriate TLC online service to check your renewal status and review relevant document submissions. The commission provides online services for checking application progress and managing licensing requirements. A TLC LARS payment receipt confirms a transaction, but it does not necessarily mean the commission has approved your renewal. Can You Apply for a New TLC License Through LARS? Yes. TLC LARS provides options for certain new driver and vehicle license applications. Applicants must select the appropriate category, provide the required information and meet the commission's licensing requirements. Submitting an application does not guarantee approval. Why Is TLC LARS Not Working? If TLC LARS does not load or a transaction fails, update your browser and reopen the official portal. Check that you selected the correct service and entered the required information. If a payment may have gone through, check your transaction record before attempting to pay again. For further guidance, consult the official NYC TLC LARS information page. Is TLC LARS an Official Government Website? Yes.
