Husky calls it a rubberized thermoplastic with their own ProGard coating, and it shows. It is soft enough to grip your boots but stiff enough to hold its shape. The WeatherTech liner feels harder and more solid. It is a tri extruded plastic that WeatherTech engineered specifically to stay rigid, and you can feel that rigidity the moment you pick one up. It sits in the footwell like it was molded there, because it basically was. As for thickness, the WeatherTech liner is denser and feels heavier in your hand. Husky's mat is a touch thinner but makes up for it with flex, so it does not crack or go stiff when it gets cold in my garage overnight. Neither one cracked, curled, or warped at the edges after months of use, which is more than I can say for the cheap trim to fit mats I owned years ago. Fit and Coverage Both companies laser scan the actual floor pan of your vehicle, so on paper the fit should be identical. In practice, the WeatherTech liner in my SUV sat about half a millimeter tighter around the edges. It is a small thing, but I noticed it every time I looked down. The Husky liner in my truck fit just as well where it counted, at the pedals and along the door sill, and its raised lip is actually a little taller than WeatherTech's, so it caught more of the gravel and snow that fell off my boots before it reached the carpet. If you drive something common like a Honda, Toyota, or Ford, both brands almost certainly make your exact pattern, so the decision really comes down to price and feel rather than fit. Does Either one Slide, and Does it Grip your Heel This is the question I get asked the most, so I tested it on purpose. I hit the brakes hard enough to make it uncomfortable, on dry pavement and on wet pavement, and I paid attention to how my heel felt working the pedals. The Husky mat did not move once. It has small nibs on the bottom that grab the factory carpet, and they work. My heel also never slipped on its textured surface, even with wet boots. The WeatherTech mat stayed put on dry pavement but slid forward about an inch on wet pavement in my SUV, which has a smoother factory carpet than my truck. It is not dangerous, and it never got near the pedals, but I would call it the one real weak spot I found in an otherwise excellent product. If you have read about the WeatherTech sliding problem online, I can confirm it is real on certain vehicles, and Husky's nib system simply does not have that issue. What actually matters is how each liner behaves once it's dealing with the mess of daily driving, not a showroom floor. Here's how Husky and WeatherTech held up once the weather, the mud, and my own bad habits got involved. Cleaning, Muddy boots, and Wet Weather Both hose off in under two minutes. The WeatherTech surface is a little smoother, so mud rinses off it slightly faster. The Husky surface has more texture, which traps a bit more dirt in the grooves, but it also holds standing liquid better before it sloshes back out, which matters more to me than saving thirty seconds with the hose. For muddy boots and wet weather specifically, both hold up well, but Husky's taller lip gave me a bit more confidence during a slushy week where I was getting in and out of the truck constantly. If you want a mat built for genuine all weather use, either one qualifies, but Husky felt like it was built for exactly that job first. Installation, and Can You Cut Them to Fit? Neither one needed a single cut. Both drop into place in a few minutes with no tools, and both use the factory retention hooks where your vehicle has them. If you buy the custom laser fit version from either brand, do not expect to trim it, it is already shaped for your exact floor pan. Where cutting comes in is on the cheaper universal mats each brand also sells. Husky's Heavy Duty mats and WeatherTech's trim to fit Universal mats are both designed to be cut down at home if your vehicle does not have a custom pattern yet. I have not needed to do this with either brand's custom liners, and I would not recommend forcing a cut into one if you can avoid it. Durability After a Full Season Neither mat cracked, faded, or broke down after a season of real use in hot and cold weather. If I am being picky, the Husky mat's flexibility gives me more confidence it will not stress crack years from now, while the WeatherTech liner's rigid build resists scuffing a bit better. Both brands sell products people keep using for five to ten years without issue, and nothing in my testing suggested either one wears out early. Price, and Why Husky Costs Less I paid noticeably less for the Husky set, roughly a third less than the WeatherTech set for a similar front and rear combination. The gap comes down to material and brand position more than corner cutting. WeatherTech makes its own patented plastic in house and covers a huge range of vehicles, and that engineering cost gets passed on. Husky keeps its lineup a bit tighter and its material simpler to produce, which is how it stays cheaper without actually being a lesser product. If you are trying to decide whether you really need WeatherTech or can get away with Husky, my honest answer is that most people can get away with Husky. The cases where I would spend the extra money are a brand new car you plan to keep pristine, or a vehicle Husky simply does not make a liner for yet. Warranty: What's Actually Covered Both brands back their products with a lifetime warranty that covers defects in material and workmanship for as long as you own the vehicle. Neither warranty transfers if you sell the car, and neither covers normal wear and tear, so do not expect a free replacement just because your mat looks a little worn after eight years of daily use. On paper the coverage is basically identical, and I have no complaints about either company standing behind their product. Looks, and Protecting a New Car's Resale Value WeatherTech looks a bit more like it came from the factory. It sits flush and tight, which is why a lot of people buy it specifically to protect a brand new car's carpet without it looking like an add on. Husky looks slightly more rugged, which suits a truck or work vehicle better than it suits a luxury sedan. For resale value, either one does the job. What actually protects your trade in value is keeping the original carpet clean and stain free for years, and both brands manage that equally well. What Other Owners Say I am not the only one who has run both brands. In the owner groups and forums I follow, the pattern matches what I found. Husky owners consistently mention the value and the grip. WeatherTech owners consistently praise the fit and mention the price as their biggest hesitation, along with the occasional shifting mat on smoother carpet. Reliability complaints against either brand are rare, and warranty claims for both seem to get handled without much hassle. Do You Need a Branded Mat at All? I tried a generic trim-to-fit mat years ago before switching to a real brand, and there is no comparison. Generic mats do not have the raised edges or the tight custom fit that either Husky or WeatherTech offers, and they usually do not come with a real warranty. Mine slid around within the first week, bunched up under the pedals more than once, and started curling at the edges by the end of that first winter. If you are spending money on floor protection at all, spend it on a brand that actually engineers the product for your vehicle. A generic mat is cut to a general size range and then trimmed down by hand, which means the edges never really seal against the door sill or center console the way a laser-scanned liner does. That gap is exactly where spills and mud find their way onto your actual carpet, which defeats the point of buying a mat in the first place. The price difference also matters less than it looks like on the sticker. A generic set might save you twenty or thirty dollars up front. But if it needs replacing every year or two because it curls, cracks, or stops fitting right, you end up spending more over time anyway. So it's always better to go with a Husky or WeatherTech liner backed by a lifetime warranty. I would rather pay once for something built for my specific vehicle than buy the cheap version twice. Where Should You Buy? I bought my Husky set directly from Husky Liners website after comparing it against AutoZone and Amazon prices, and it was the best deal that week. WeatherTech only sells through its own site, so there is no third party price shopping there, but they run sales a few times a year that are worth waiting for if you are not in a rush. Final Verdict After a season of actual use, I would tell you to buy Husky Liners unless their car falls outside Husky's lineup or they specifically want the tightest possible fit for a brand new vehicle. Husky gave me nearly everything WeatherTech did for less money, and the only real trade off, a bit of sliding on wet carpet, is one WeatherTech itself could not fully solve. Both are legitimate, well made products backed by real warranties. I would happily run either one in my own driveway. I just happen to reach for Husky first.
